US tennis star Ben Shelton doesnāt want to āput a ceilingā on what he can achieve

About this time last year, Ben Shelton was an up-and-coming tennis player taking his first-ever trip outside the United States.
Not long out of college, Shelton was relatively unknown on the circuit having only been pro for the past six months. But armed with a lethal serve and the fearlessness of youth, things were about to change ā fast.
āI feel like it went from nobody knowing me to a lot of people knowing me kind of overnight,ā Shelton tells CNN Sport. āIt felt really quick.ā
Skip ahead 12 months and the 21-year-old American is in Australia preparing to play in his sixth grand slam and second at Melbourne Park.
At this point in his young career, Sheltonās results have been excellent: he reached the quarterfinals of last yearās Australian Open and went a step further at the US Open, eventually losing to Novak Djokovic in a fiery semifinal. Several weeks after that, he won his first ATP Tour title in Japan.
It figures, then, that Shelton enters his second full season as a professional tennis player with weighty expectations.
āHe could cut his ranking in half,ā tennis coach and broadcaster Brad Gilbert recently told CNN, āand I think heās going to be the first American potentially to win a slam since Andy Roddick.ā |

Lai Ching-te, a former doctor from a poor mining family, was propelled into politics by a military crisis in the Taiwan Strait 27 years ago.
Now, the soft-spoken political veteran is tasked with preventing another one from happening as the newly elected leader of the self-ruled island that Chinaās Communist Party has vowed to one day absorb.
On Saturday, Lai, 64, the current vice president from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), won a widely watched election to become Taiwanās next president.
His victory handed the DPP a historic third consecutive term, delivering a snub to years of growing threats from Taiwanās much-larger authoritarian neighbor, China.
āThe election has shown the world the commitment of the Taiwanese people to democracy, which I hope China can understand,ā Lai told thousands of jubilant supporters at a rally after his win.
Lai, who has long faced Beijingās wrath for championing Taiwanās sovereignty, said as president he has āan important responsibility to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,ā pledging to pursue dialogue with China under the principles of dignity and parity. |

Dangerous Sub-Zero Wind Chills to Blanket Much of the U.S.
